YSL Dog Arrested: RICO Charges Filed Against Young Thug, Gunna, and 26 Other Members of YSL

The following is an excerpt from a statement that was sent to Pitchfork by Gunna’s attorney, Steve Sadow:

When I first got involved with YSL in 2016, I did not believe it to be a “gang.” Instead, I saw it as more of a community of folks from the metro Atlanta area who had a passion for the arts and a desire to pursue it professionally.

My main concern was with the entertainment aspect of YSL, namely with rap artists who composed and performed songs that exaggerated and “glorified” the lifestyle of urban Black people.

Although I have committed to telling the truth at all times, I want to make it abundantly clear that I have not made any statements, that I have not been interviewed, that I have not cooperated, that I have not agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case, and that I have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way. While I have made this commitment, I want to make it abundantly clear that I have NOT made any statements, that I have NOT been interviewed, that

I have made the decision to put a stop to my own RICO case by entering an Alford plea, and I have also put an end to my personal agony by publicly disclosing my affiliation with YSL. An Alford plea would mean that I would enter a guilty plea to the one charge that has been brought against me since it is in my best advantage to do so; nevertheless, I would still maintain my innocence about the same accusation. My connection to YSL music is something I will always hold dear to my heart since I love and appreciate it. I see this as a chance to teach young people that “gangs” and violence only lead to devastation, and I want to contribute back to my community by doing so.
