The Last of Us has been making waves since its premiere. One aspect of the series that has received particular praise is its haunting and melancholic soundtrack. Composed by Gustavo Santaolalla and David Fleming, the music perfectly captures the mood and emotion of the post-apocalyptic world in which the story is set. Now, fans of the show can enjoy the music in its entirety as Milan Records has released the official Season 1 soundtrack.

Santaolalla, a two-time Oscar winner known for his work on films such as Brokeback Mountain and Babel, brought his considerable experience to the project. He worked closely with Fleming to create a score that would capture the same emotional intensity as the original game. Santaolalla noted that the music for the series was an expansion of what he had developed for the game’s first installment. He attributed the power of the score to the vision of the show’s creators, Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, and the strength of the story they were telling.

“Creating the music for the HBO series based on the video game The Last Of Us was, in a way, an expansion of what we have developed and recorded for the first installment of the game,” Santaolalla said . “Once again, the emotion at the heart of the score this time is driven by the vision of Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin and by the power of this amazing story.”

The soundtrack perfectly complements the show’s dark and emotional themes, and which stands on its own as a powerful work of art. The Last of Us airs on HBO and HBO Max at 9 p.m. EST every Sunday.
